Drones in Real Estate: Do they work-Yes. Will they boost your listings-Yes, Will your listings move faster-Yes. Don't take C4's word for it. Click The Link Below.
Realtors, what are your thoughts on individuals selling property without a real estate license? Does it aggravate you? Does it make you mad? Is it taking money out of your pocket? The answer to all the above should be an astounding “YES!’
So why would you hire a drone pilot that’s not FAA licensed?
You say “Oh well that’s different,” and you would be right it is different because it’s not illegal to sell property without a real estate license but it is against federal law to fly a drone to capture real estate photos or videos without a license.
So let me answer just a few questions I get quite often concerning this topic:
As a realtor can I be held responsible if I hire an unlicensed pilot?
- Yes and No, The FAA will more than likely not hold you responsible (unless you are also the pilot) but if an investigation occurs you will get subpoenaed by the courts which will negatively affect your business. Also, if the pilot does damage the home or property you will be responsible along with the pilot for the damages.
How much is the fine for flying without a license?
- The typical fine is $1100.00 per event. Therefore if the unlicensed pilot fly’s 4 batteries on a real estate shoot, that is 4 events. ($4400.00). Also, in some recent news articles unlicensed pilots have been jailed for flying in an unsafe manner.
Is the FAA really going to be out patrolling for unlicensed pilots?
- Probably not but in all honesty they don’t need to be. All they need is the video or photos off your website, YouTube, Facebook, etc.to raise suspicion, then prove that whoever recorded the media was not licensed, and that is a very simple task.
Can I just go buy my own drone and get licensed and take my own real estate videos?
- Sure you can, but remember just because you buy a hammer and a tool belt you’re not a home builder. It takes training, practice, additional tools, experience, etc. You are selling a house not filming, little Johnnies baseball game.
So please make sure you are using an FAA licensed and insured drone pilot!

So if you have not already heard a drone will be dropping a football for the Super Bowl this year and there will also be a large display of drone entertainment during halftime. This could be a huge step for the drone industry as long as it all goes well or it could be a major stick in the eye if there are any mishaps. I am sure the FAA has done all their due diligence to make sure the drone activity this evening is completely safe but you just never know. As a drone business owner I hope all goes well and my phone blows up tomorrow due to the curiosity and positive reaction from the millions of viewers. Most will be watching the Super Bowl for the game, some for the commercials, but for me and my C4 Media STL Team; we will be watching for the drone action! Below is a really good article from Paul Alexander of DroneU concerning the drone events at tonights Super Bowl. Paul is starting to become an icon in the drone industry and has been a major help to those of us new to the drone industry.

Drones are not just for having fun and taking photos and videos any more. They have so many more uses than that. Check out this story about how a Veteran suffering from PTSD used his DJI drone to save lives.
"Success is not Final. Failure is not fatal. It's the courage to continue that counts."
------- Winston Churchill
This is a great quote that I ran across yesterday which really resonated with me in regards to starting a business from the ground up. It's not easy and it's not always fun, but having the courage to continue and see it through is what really counts and allows one to reap the benefits of success.

OK so this is my first time ever blogging so be gentle please and let's see how this goes.
Just wanted to let everyone know that C4 Media STL is officially up and running. We are FAA Part 107 approved, Fully insured, website is almost done, business cards are being distributed and now we are starting to network (anyone that's been around business knows that networking is HUGE.)
Just wanted to take time in this first blog for some shout-outs. There have been many that have helped me in this process of starting my first business and hopefully I won't miss any.
First off my family that has been supporting me and motivating me; especially to my wife Carole and my son Shane. I know I have been locked in my office more than normal and not able to spend as much time with you but you have both been completely understanding and I think it will all pay off soon.
Thank you Nate Salah at The Income Tax Center for making it official.
